A massive Industrial Park is set to be constructed in Moi’s Bridge, one of the urban centres in Uasin Gishu County. The Industrial Park will be an agro-processing hub that will boost farming in the region.
The 45-acre project is financed by investors from HOlland and implemented by the County of Uasin Gishu together with DASUDA and Agro Hub.
Farmers in Uasin Gishu and the surrounding counties have complained for many years about high costs of production and low prices for their maize and wheat. The Industrial Park will be accessible to farmers in Uasin Gishu, Trans Nzoia, Elgeyo Marakwet, and Kakamega who will be supplying fresh produce, avocado, dairy products, grains, and potatoes for processing.
Already, construction has begun on the site of the proposed Industrial Park.
Besides farmers, the project also targets seed manufacturers and animal feed processors in Western Kenya and neighboring countries.
Officials say that there are already local and international firms showing interest in setting up industries within the Industrial Park.
One of the interested firms is Agrico East Africa, a potato seed company. They expect to attract potato processors who can take advantage of massive potato production in Elgeyo Marakwet.
Investors will enjoy access to land, power, water, and a weighbridge.
A similar project in Ainabkoi constituency (Pearl River) began construction in 2017. The projects will also benefit from proximity to Eldoret International Airport which accesses the Middle East market. Pearl River is backed by Cendate Solar, DL Group and Selenkei.
