This week, Uasin Gishu County is playing host to hundreds of MCAs who are in town for the inter county games.
Notable among them are the Kakamega MCAs who will be holding a special sitting in our County Hall to discuss their Finance Bill.
This will make it the first County Assembly to have official sittings outside their place of parliamentary jurisdiction.
The sitting will be led by Maurice Buluma, the Speaker of the County Assembly of Kakamega.
The MCAs are taking advantage of the inter-county assembly games which are being held in Eldoret.
Buluma’s reign as Speaker was salvaged by Governor Wycliffe Oparanya who prevailed upon the MCAs not to impeach him.
The sitting was gazette because they are now on recess.
Uasin Gishu Speaker David Kiplagat said that the sitting by Kakamega MCAs at the Uasin Gishu County Assembly would offer an opportunity for the assemblies of Uasin Gishu and Kakamega to learn from one another.
Uasin Gishu was also the host of the first Senate sittings to ever be held outside of the capital city in Nairobi. The special Senate sitting happened in September last year.
More than 1,000 MCAs are expected to be Eldoret for the whole week to participate in the second edition of the inter-county assembly games.
Deputy President William Ruto has been invited to officially open the games on Monday while opposition chief Raila Odinga had been invited as chief guest at the closing ceremony on Saturday.
Raila had, however, not confirmed his attendance by press time.
“We are prepared to host the MCAs and other staff so that we can also share experiences on devolution and also have time to exercise during the sports events,” Kiplagat said.
Uasin Gishu Majority leader Josphat Lowoi said they had learned a lot in terms of improving devolution by working with other relevant institutions.
