A cross section of politicians from the North Rift region who attended the burial of a slain Elgeiyo Marakwet politician lashed out at the government. The leaders want the government to bring the killers to justice.
They were talking at the burial of Benson Kiptire who is a Ward Representative for Kanu ward in Marakwet East. The late Kiptire was eulogized as a champion of peace and unity among the communities in Elgeiyo Marakwet and Pokot. His body was found on June 22nd in Kamatira forest, West Pokot. He had been lost for a day.
Elgeiyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen called the killing an assassination. Murkomen said that Kiptire was killed by people who ‘do not believe in the rule of law.’
