In 2020, Eldoret Catholic Diocese’ new Bishop-elect will officially take office. Reverend Dominic Kimengich’s consecration will take place next year, after which he will take up office, replacing Bishop Cornelius Korir who died a year ago.

Reverend Kimengich’s consecration is planned for 1st February, according to a letter from the Diocese signed by Eldoret Diocese’ Apostolic Administrator and the Bishop of Kitale, Maurice Crowley.

Crawley has been acting in place of Korir since his death in October 2017.

The Diocese will now be preparing to install the next Bishop at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Cathedral, Eldoret.

Kimengich is a 58-year-old cleric who was previously serving as the Bishop of Lodwar before Pope Francis appointed him to be the new Eldoret Bishop a fortnight ago.

His appointment letter was submitted officially to the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops. Crawley said that he would be pleased to continue working with the Catholic faithful

The Catholic faithfuls are still waiting for the pope to appoint a new Bishop for Lodwar Diocese.

The late Cornelius Korir was a renown peacemaker and human rights advocate in the Rift Valley.
