Senator Gideon Moi thanked Kenyans for their prayers and support during President Daniel Arap Moi’s illness. The former president has been in and out of hospital since October last year, and he was on life support when he died at the Nairobi Hospital on Tuesday, 4th of February 2020.
Moi was 95 years old when he died, and his son Gideon Moi was by his side when he passed on. According to Gideon, Moi died peacefully in his sleep. He said that the family had accepted the loss of their father.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has announced that Moi will recieve a military state funeral with full honors due to a head of state. Apart from the Moi family, government officials Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, Police Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai, and General Samson Mwathethe of the Defence Forces were there.
The military and GSU took command of security around the Nairobi Hospital and its perimeters, and a military ambulance transferred the body to the Lee Funeral Home. Kanu officials Charles Keter and Nick Salat were also condoling with the Moi family at Nairobi Hospital.
