Fresh landslides have left even more people in West Pokot homeless.
One elderly woman suffered injuries when the mud hit her home. In November last year, West Pokot was ravaged by mudslides that hit Tapach, Tamkal, and Nyarkulian villages killing 43 people and displacing hundreds.
Yesterday’s landslide which destroyed five homes took place in Kongot Village of Tapach Ward. The woman is receiving treatment at Kapenguria County Referral Hospital.
The landslide was precipitated by heavy rains that poured down on Saturday.
The woman’s grandchildren escaped, but she was unable to escape. The 89-year-old was covered in mud when neighbors came to rescue her. The family lost domestic animals which were buried in mud.
