“I will Never Respond to Allegations Against me,” Gladys Boss Shollei
Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Boss Shollei says that photos of her embracing a caucasian man were released by a person known to her who had threatened to destroy her character.
Shollei was responding to a string of photographs that have gone viral showing her embracing a caucasian man said to be her new love.
The politician vowed not to allow the scandal to stop her from doing her job, saying that she would continue with her daily activities. She went ahead to list the public engagements that she had been carrying out in Uasin Gishu.
After the five-minute press conference, Shollei refused to answer questions.
Shollei and ex-husband Sam Shollei divorced recently, and Sam, a former Standard Group CEO, raised eyebrows when he married a former colleague the day after their divorce was granted by the Courts. Sam Shollei’s new wife was Faith Rono who was the Corporate Communications Director at Standard Group.
An emotional Shollei stated that none of the photos were showing any improper conduct on her part, and vowed never to respond to allegations against her. Shollei said that she ‘was never raised to be an evil person.’
The photos attracted attention from Kenyans all over Social media and the blogosphere, with some websites referring to them as ‘intimate photos‘ even though. Gladys Boss Shollei is a former Registrar with the Judicial Service Commission.
The photos attracted a mixture of criticism, ridicule, and praise, with some congratulating her for moving on ‘like a boss.’
Member of Parliament Millicent Odhiambo Mabona congratulated Gladys Boss Shollei on her alleged new relationship. Here is her statement, posted on her Facebook page:
‘Yesterday, my sister Gladys Jepkosgei Boss was on air to clarify a few things in regard to her matrimonial life. I wish to state that:
1) They are not the first to divorce and will not be the last.
2) In this age and time, one can easily move on after divorce and remarry at any time and any age. It is lawful. Sam Shollei moved on one day after divorce. The speed depends on their “behind-the-door” realities we are not privy to
3) Because of the public nature of Gladys’ life, there will likely be attempts to paint her bad to spoil her chances of going forward. Do not let that worry you a bit. You are a good leader.
Uasin Gishu will make the final decision about your leadership going forward. Should they not elect you, you are an excellent lawyer, you will rise like you have risen through the storm before. I know many women leaders who have had to withstand blackmail from spouses because of their positions. Do not be intimidated.
4) I am happy you have said you will not be responding to the smear campaign against you but we will be on hand to defend. We may be on different paths politically and we will definitely be on each other’s case politically but socially and spiritually, you are my sister and my hero.
All the best as you start a new life with or without a man. It is your choice.
