American shoe brand Sketchers will be coming to Eldoret, with their local distributors opening a retail outlet which will stock Sketchers and Clarks shoes. The distributor is Phirdos Kenya which wants to exploit opportunities to expand retail coverage in Kenya and East Africa at large, according to Country Manager Fat-hi Basheikh.
The company has been trading in the UK, Europe, the US, and the Middle East for more than ten years. Although Sketchers have been available in Kenya for two years, their presence has been low key.
The company has just opened outlets at the Village Market and Sarit Centre. The previous franchise holder was Nakumatt Holdings.
More international brands have been competing in the Kenyan retail fashion space, including Mango and Hugo Boss. Woolworths has also expanded with 11 stores in Kenya including one in Eldoret, Kisumu, and Mombasa.
South African retail store Mr. Price opened 12 stores in 2018 after it bought out Deacons East Africa.
