Uasin Gishu Bans Drying Maize in Public Places

Eldoret residents are used to seeing maize spread out on the tarmac roads and public spaces like the field outside Kipchoge Stadium and other public places.

According to Samuel Yego the CEC in charge of agriculture, the ban was informed by concerns about public health and food contamination.

Yego said that maize that is dried outside in urban centers was prone to exposure to pathogens that can cause aflatoxin.

The CEC told the National Cereals and Produce Board to help farmers in drying their maize so that it meets the recommended moisture.
