Uasin Gishu is one of the counties that suffered the effects of forest fires, with 40 acres of the Seng’alo forest getting razed to the ground in 2019.

This was revealed during a flag off ceremony at Karura in Nairobi.

The Kenya Forest Service deployed four Toyota Land Cruisers worthSh25million which are meant to make the Service more efficient in its quest to protect the forests in Mt Kenya and Aberdares forest as well as Lamu and Kiifi County.

According to the Chief Conservator of Service Julius Kamau, the four vehicles will improve the division tasked with Security and Protection of forests.

Forest surveillance plays a role in mitigating the effects of forest fires during the dry season.

The four Toyota Land Cruisers are customized for forest operations.

Managing forest fires is an expensive exercise that costs a lot of capital.

In recent years, 50,000 hectares of forest has been destroyed in fires, with Coast, Eastern, and Central being the most urgently in need of intervention.

The Kenya Forest Service will work with communities to protect the forests

Early 2019 saw 24,710 acres of Mt Kenya woodlands destroyed in fire.
